Robert Combas

Robert Combas is a French artist, born in 1957. He brings during the 80s a new figurative painting. Present on the artistic scene since 1979, he is the creator of the movement that Ben called "free figuration", movement gathering Rémi Blanchard, François Boisrond and Hervé Di Rosa. Painting made of freedom, it speaks about society, violence, sexuality, people's suffering, their small happiness, their smallness, their greatness. She is inspired by rock music, popular images, childhood books, schoolbooks, and everything that makes popular culture accessible to all. He manipulates the images of everyday life while mixing historical and mythological references. Cultivating a style inspired by graffiti and comics, he creates a painting that is sometimes casual and humorous, sometimes violent and sensual.
